Where Science & Passion Unite

Mid‑20th Century | Nearly 100 Years of Hillside History
Celebrating nearly 100 years of hillside history, the now ruins of Poggio Maiolo once functioned as a granary for residents of the medieval town of Montone.

2003 | Founded by the Fortunati Family
The hillside of Poggio Maiolo was acquired by the Fortunati Family in 2003, situated between the Upper Tiber Valley and the Umbrian-Marche Apennines, offering a unique environment for agriculture. A family of scientific visionaries, the Fortunatis, owners of ECOSEARCH, specializing in agricultural research and environmental protection – Poggio Maiolo was transformed to reflect the family’s relentless pursuit of uncompromising and environmentally sustainable quality agriculture.

2007 | Driven by Data and a Dream...a Farm Was Born
Featuring 45 hectares of stunning land, 6 hectares of vineyards, 2 hectares of truffle grounds, 800 olive trees, and expansive arable woodlands – in 2007, driven by data and a dream, the farm of Poggio Maiolo was born. With the freedom to plant grape varieties ideally suited for the soil and climate, the Fortunati Sisters planted Pinot Noir, Syrah, Friulano, Chardonnay, and Viogner. Moving on to the vast olive groves, the family planted a collection of regional favorites including Frantoio, Leccino, Dolce Agogia, Moraiolo, and Pendolino olive trees. Finally, in the pursuit of creating biodiversity across the woodland hill, in collaboration with the University of Perugia, two forests of oak trees were planted, infused with truffle spores from the acclaimed Bianchetto Marzolino White Truffle, Black Truffle, and the Scorzone Estivo Truffle.

2010 | Poggio Maiolo - A Vintner's Dream Come True

2024 | From One Family to Another - Poggio Maiolo & Agricola Cordoni Maser Unite
After cultivating the lands of Poggio Maiolo for over 20 years, and celebrating their 30th anniversary of ECOSEARCH, the Fortunati Family decided to focus full-time on their love of agricultural science, and pass the torch to the Cordoni Maser Family to take over the lands of Poggio Maiolo. Today, Angela Cordoni and Valeria Fortunati work hand in hand to reinvigorate the winery and olive production, to be able to share the beauty and terroir of Montone with fine artisan wine and organic olive oil aficionados from around the World.

2025 | With Agricola Cordoni Maser >> Poggio Maiolo Goes Global
